2 NPA rebels killed in clash with troops

TWO COMMUNIST rebels were killed in a clash with troops from the 60th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Kimataan II, Barangay Gupitan, Kapalong,Davao del Norte at 3:08 p.m. on Wednesday.According to the report, the soliers were in pusuit operation when they encounter an undetermined number of rebels. The exchange of gunfire lasted for half an hour. There were no casualties on the government side.

The troops recovered an AK-47, two M16 rifles, an M14 rifle and one improvised explosive device (IED), along with one binocular from the area.

Last October 26, 2014, two NPA bandits were killed and one AK-47 rifle was recovered by a team of soldiers and Kapalong PNP personnel in the same barangay.

Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad, Eastern Mindanao Command chief, earlier directed all military unit commanders to intensify its operations against NPA rebels.

“In the spirit of Bayanihan, we are waiting for their return to the folds of the law. We have the AFP’s Guns for Peace Program and livelihood package assistance from concerned LGUs as they will embrace peace. Our civilian stakeholders are with us in these peace and development efforts,” Lt. Gen. Baladad said
