2 more Red fighters killed

TWO members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a clash with the troops of 39th Infantry Battalion in the forested outskirts of Sitio Bayongon, Barangay Astorga, Sta Cruz, Davao del Sur on Saturday.Meanwhile, an alleged female guerrilla was also captured during the operation.

Capt.  Mc Gary Dida,  the civil-military operations (CMO)  officer of 39th IB,  said at 11:25 a.m. on  April 21, the troops of the  39th IB initiated an operation targeting the members of Guerrilla Front 51, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee who were found in Sitio Bayongon.

Dida said they were following up a tip by a concerned citizen who approached soldiers stationed at Barangay Tuban, Sta Cruz, Davao del Sur about a group of armed men extorting businesses in the area.

They went to the area and encountered an undetermined number of NPAs.

The firefight resulted in the death of a rebel and the capture of an alleged amazon. Taken from them were one M16 rifle, three improvised explosive devices, and two rifle grenades.

During a search and clearing operation, the troops found a severely wounded fighter who identified himself as Julito Pueblas alias Taghoy. But he died before receiving medical treatment.

Reportedly, Pueblas was the commanding officer of Sentro de Grabidad, GF 51, SMRC.

Cpl. Kenneth James Balicot was slightly wounded and attended to by the troops. He’s now in stable condition.

Lt. Col Rhojun Rosales, commanding officer of the 39th IB, said thanked the residents for cooperating with the government in trying to end the decades-old rebellion.

“The 39IB will always respond to any insurgence-related information,” he said.

Brig. Gen. Roberto Ancan, 1002nd Infantry Brigade commander, said called on the remaining rebels to put down their arms and avail of the government programs so they can go back to their families and live peaceful lives.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Noel Clement, commander of 10th Infantry Division, praised the troops for the latest accomplishment. “Our forces will continue on hunting down those remaining NPA terrorists but will spare those who want to surrender,” he said.
