2 face gun raps after they are arrested at checkpoint

A GOVERNMENT employee and a painter were arrested by authorities after guns were seized from them during a joint checkpoint in front of Alta Monte subdivision at Barangay Tigatto, Buhangin District on Saturday.

Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz, commander of Buhangin Police Precinct, identified the suspects as Mohajeran S. Balayman, 40, hailing from Barangay Tina, Tacurong , Sultan Kudarat and transient resident of Deca Homes in Tigatto; and Alain B. Borneo, 43, resident of Garcia Heights in Bajada.

Balayman was driving his black Ford Everest coming from Tigatto heading to downtown area when flagged down at the checkpoint around 1 p.m. Police reportedly noticed his discomfort and questioned him. He later admitted that he was carrying a gun inside his bag.

Confiscated from him was one unit STI Caliber .40 handgun. He also could not present documents for the gun.

Meanwhile, Borneo was arrested when a .38 caliber revolver was also confiscated from him during a checkpoint in fronting Fernandez Elementary School in Barangay Indangan, Buhangin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The gun was hidden inside a black bag, which was opened at that time and seen by P03 Alfredo Rosalia Jr. of Buhangin PNP. He also failed to show the license for the gun. The suspects are now detained in Buhangin Police Precinct for filing of appropriate charges for violation of RA 10591 or the “Illegal Possession of Firearm.”
