19th ASEAN Age Group Chess C’ships on

SOME 300 to 500 entries coming from 13 countries including host Philippines are set to show their wares when the much-anticipated 19th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships reels off Tuesday (June 19) at the Royal Mandaya Hotel Grand Ballroom.
These entries will take part in the different age group categories having the Under 8 years-old, Under 10 years-old, Under 12 years-old, Under 14 years-old, Under 16 years-old, Under 18 years-old and Under 20 years-old divisions for the Standard nine-round scheduled competition. Aside from it, Rapid and Blitz competitions will also be staged for the Open boys, girls and senior participants.
Round one will start after the grand opening rites set at 10 a.m. which will be graced by ASEAN Chess Academy Founder and President Ignatius Leong along with local organizer and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-XI Director IA James Infiesto. Expected to join them are President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-XI Chairman/President Hon. Prospero A. Pichay Jr. NCFP board of directors Atty. Ruel Canobas and Congressman Abraham N. Tolentino are also seen to join the dignitaries along with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez, PSC Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey and officials from the Department of Education.
Rounds two until nine will be played until the 24th while the Rapid and Blitz divisions will be from June 26 to 27.
Participants of this year’s edition of the ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships will also be having a Free Day City Tour set on June 23 and a Social/Cultural Night which will be on June 25. The Social/Cultural Night will feature our participants not playing chess but will have different art performances.
More, a FIDE Arbiters Seminar will be held on June 22 to 24 with Leong, Infiesto and IA Bunawan Bong as lecturers.
