10th ID ramp up military offensives against NPAs

THE 10TH Infantry Division has been conducting relentless operation against the New People’s Army (NPA) in the region on the directive of the general headquarters after President Duterte terminated the peace talks.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Rey Leonardo Guerrero has ordered all units to beef up their defenses as communist rebels are expected to intensify their attacks.

“My directive to the troops is to intensify our focused military operations to destroy the NPA, and to protect our communities against terrorism,” Guerrero said.

Guerrero also said that focused military operations will prevent the rebels from harassing and intimidating communities.

The military supports the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to cancel the talks with Communist Party of the Philippines-National Democratic Front (CPP-NDF).

Capt. Robert Escalona , the acting spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division, said they have been relentless in their offensives even before the order from the AFP chief.

“It is, after all, our mandate to go after all armed criminals who put our communities in danger. We will go against any entities or groups that wished to spoil the peace that we are enjoying,” he added.

Nevertheless, Escalona said they keep their doors open to members of the NPA who wish to surrender. “We are always welcome if they signify intentions to lay down their arms and surrender,” he added.

Meanwhile, 401st Infantry Brigade commander Col. Andres Centino met with Federico Betonio Jr., the elected head of Barangay Buhisan, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur at the office of municipal Mayor Libertad Alameda on Monday.

Benotio said he already instructed his constituents to stay in their homes and not be afraid of the security operations because they are directed at the NPA.

“The military gives its assurance to protect their rights and their communities,” Centino said.
