1 NPA rebel killed in clash

AN ALLEGED member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in an encounter with troops of the 26th Infantry battalion in Sitio Trucktor, Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 10:55 a.m.

Meanwhile, soldiers were able to recover two high-powered firearms, belongings and subversive documents.

Lt. Romel Arnado, the civil-military operations (CMO) officer of 26th IB, told TIMES yesterday that the troops preempted the NPA attack while conducting security operations following the tip from residents regarding the plan to hit patrol bases in the area.

Arnado said the soldiers encountered more or less 30 fully armed rebels from the Guerrilla Front Committee 88, Northern Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCRMC) in the vicinity of Sitio Trucktor.

The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes before the rebels pulled out.

Later, they found an unidentified combatant in the area and also recovered an M4 rifle, AK47 rifle, six backpacks and assorted medical supplies.

Col. Andres Centino, the 401st Infantry Brigade commander, believed that there are other NPA members who were wounded in the encounter.

” The government forces is calling those wounded NPA members to yield to 26th IB troops to save their lives rather than die due to their wounds and from hunger,” Centino said.
